Horne Lake is a large (2093 acres) lake with crystal clear water. It has a maximum depth of 164 feet. Horne Lake is six miles from tip to tip and is approximately one mile wide on average. The lake is surrounded by gently sloping sandy beaches. Horne Lake’s warm swimming water can be utilized for all manner of watersports including waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, wind surfing, canoing and kayaking. Horne Lake is an excellent fishing lake which is stocked with cutthroat, rainbow, steelhead and kokanee. The best fishing occurs between April and June and September and October.

Horne Lake caves, located in Horne Lake Caves Provincial park are an amazing natural wonder and are renowned on Vancouver Island for their spectacular formations. The underground caverns, amazing crystal formations and ancient fossils provide a variety of exploring oppurtunities for school caving programs, family cave tours, self-guided programs and high adventure/extreme programs. Rock climbing enthuiasts consider Horne Lake's Euro quality limestone cliffs a ‘hot destination’. The fully completed routes have low pitches and a cliff which is 200 feet tall and third of a mile wide. The rock is compact limestone with tufas, flowstone and coloured with contrasting orange, white and black streaks. Sport climbers will find climbs like the Waterspout, Llana Love, The Body, and Globetrotters will provide many styles of climbing with a huge amount of hard sport route potential.

Cottaging is a popular pasttime at Horne Lake. There are over 350 recreational sites at the lake with the majority having cottages. A campsite with boat launching facilities is located on the lake.The campsite is a private campsite and the campsite and launch are available only on a season pass basis. The campsite is located on a 270 acre park (Horne Lake Park)

Spider Lake/Cameron Lake

Spider lake and Cameron Lake are located nearby Horne Lake and provide picnic areas, private camp grounds and boat launching facilities.Spider Lake Provincial Park is for day use only. Cameron Lake Provincial Park is for day use only and there is a private campground and private boat launch. Spider Lake does not allow motorized boats. Cameron Lake can be utilized for all water sport activities.

Oceanside Region

Horne Lake is situated 18km west of Vancouver Island's Oceanside region . The region features Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanoose Bay, French Creek, Lighthouse Country and Arrowsmith Coombs. This region is a top summer destination for tourists from all over the world and a BC vacation hotspot. The ocean playground, located in Canada's best weather region, offers beaches and mountains, boating and boutiques, golfing, a variety of hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts. Coombs is a major tourist attraction for unique shopping opportunities while Parksville and Qualicum offer beautful wide sandy beaches to build castles, take long walks, or just lounge your cares away.

Central Vancouver Island

Horne Lake is ideally situated in the centre of Vancouver Island and affords easy access to other nearby Vancouver Island destinations. Mount Washington in Courtenay is a year-round destination ski resort, Port Alberni and Campbell River offer the best salmon fishing on the Pacific Coast.Look south to Nanaimo's shopping and harbour, to Chemainus for its murals and dinner theatre, or head west to Long Beach, Tofino and and Ucuelet on the opposite coast to see some of the most magnificent coastline anywhere in the world.
